Black Seminoles were African Americans who lived among the Seminole Native American tribe in Florida during the 18th and 19th centuries. They often intermarried with the Seminoles and adopted their culture and way of life. Many Black Seminoles were also former slaves who escaped from plantations and sought refuge with the Seminoles. They played a significant role in the Seminole Wars, fighting alongside the Seminoles against the U.S. government.
