Strange as the tale seems, there is nothing absolutety incredible in i, for wild animals wit occasionary stray to a
great distance from their usual haunts.
Numbers of these animals are sta found in the State, particularly in the northern mountainous countes
Panthers, & is said, would be very likely to have taken advantage of such an accident, when they might not have
attacked the man had he continued to face them without in his turn attacking them
What a moment & must have been, when, alone in the forest, the poor hunter fei, and those fierce beasts of prey
both leaped upon him!
