1. Loss of personal freedom: Jonas has to follow strict rules and regulations that limit his personal freedom. He cannot share his experiences with anyone else, cannot choose his own career or spouse, and cannot even choose his own clothing.
2. Emotional burden: As the Receiver, Jonas has to bear the emotional burden of all the memories of pain, suffering, and war that the community has chosen to forget. This can be overwhelming and traumatic for him, as he has to experience these emotions alone without anyone to share them with.
