Question
Understanding Sentence Fluency
According to Education Northwest, the developers of the 6+1Trait® Writing Model,
"sentence fluency is the rhythm and flow of language, the sound of word patterns,
the way in which writing plays to the ear, and not just the eye." One way to make
sure that your writing is fluent is to read it aloud. When you read it aloud it should
sound like it has cadence, power, rhythm, and movement like a piece of music.
Your progress should not be slowed by awkward word patterns. Your sentences
should vary in length, beginnings, structure, and style. They should be so well
crafted that the reader moves through your writing with ease.
